ABOUT

nice to meet you!!

I am Ms. Kelsey Meyer, and I am an undergrad student at Colorado State University, pursuing my BFA in Art Education with a concentration in Printmaking.  I was born and raised in Fort Collins, CO, and around age 8 I decided I wanted to be a teacher. And the decision stuck!

Outside of the classroom, I love anything that is outdoors (think: hiking, biking, skiing, gardening, anything where I can soak in the sunshine). I also love to cook, read, hang out with friends, break into impromptu dance whenever Taylor Swift comes on, and I love, love, love to create.

Inside my class I want to make art accessible and useful! Art has no true definition, comes in many forms, and I hope that my students rarely will utter “But I AM NOT an artist!”. I also hope that art can be a pathway for processing and analyzing the many emotions and events that happen in this life. Art can be a necessary catharsis, and I will be there to help make sure my students are safe and cared for. Art is also an incredible tool when it comes to thinking creatively and visually. Art can be integrated into every subject and can be a useful gateway to understanding for students who are visual thinkers or hands-on learners. Art means different things to everyone, and I am here to help along that journey.

As an artist, I have had work shown in the Colorado Governor’s Art Show (2019), and my research presented at CSU’s Art History Symposium (2023). I have worked in mediums from Crayola crayons to multilayered stone lithograph prints to woodwork to pottery and nearly everything in between.

As an educator, I have worked with kids as a babysitter/nanny since 2012, was a summer camp counselor (2017-19), and have worked in the classroom during my time at CSU- in middle and high school classrooms, with elementary students in an both classroom and art museum contexts, and with adult students who have developmental disabilities. I have also worked in food industry and retail while attending school, in which I employed a variety of skills that are transferable from the service industry to educational contexts.
