Within the “Standards” and “Objectives” sections of this lesson plan for Painting 2, Mandalas Project: Intro to Acrylic Media and Additives, I aligned lesson objectives with the Colorado Academic Standards, Studio Habits of Mind, and the IB Learner Traits. By doing so, I have adhered my lesson to state standards. I additionally incorporated the IB Learner Traits as Loveland High was very focused on integrating IB ideas and techniques into all classes in the school. Student needs were met individually, but guided by the idea of the objectives as a criteria for what successful learning looks like within this lesson.

To conclude the Funk Art Foods unit for 3rd through 5th grade, I had students engage in a cross-curricular activity integrating math, literacy, and economics. They imagined their food art as menu items, assigning each a price using dollars and cents. Students could choose realistic or “silly” prices. Working in groups, they totaled their prices as if on a single restaurant tab, creating a restaurant name, food item names, and a mock receipt. Afterwards, students individually crafted artist statements reflecting on their work. Through these reflection activities, students engaged with math, economics, and literacy through an artistic lens.

I created this Drawing Techniques Reference Packet for Drawing 2 students at Loveland High. Students were introduced to each technique, alongside a wide variety of drawing media and drawing subjects (figures, animals, still life, portraiture, etc.). This packet served as a resource to refresh or help with inspiration when students were completing a Drawing Techniques Assignment- detailed in pages 1-3 of the packet.
Creating this resource not only displayed my understanding of the many techniques used in drawing, but also allowed for me to consider how I would describe those techniques using words in addition to visuals, reaching a wider audience of my learners.
I also created a Spanish translated version of the document for my Spanish-speaking ELL students.
